ABOUT ME
I'm an astrophysicist by training, but my heart belongs to baseball. I love sports in general--I'm usually the one screaming at the television--but blowouts, frankly, are boring; I much prefer upsets and overtime. As far as I'm concerned, the delight of sports is in the details. I'm a rabid scorekeeper and an armchair manager, and there's nothing more beautiful than a well-choreographed play. And of course, I love the data and the numbers. (How can an astrophysicist not love the data and the numbers?)
ABOUT THE BLOG
I want to write about sports--all kinds of sports--from a STEM point of view. That means looking at data and technology--all kinds of technology--as well as topical quirky subjects that might involve physics or numbers. (For instance, how badly did your Buffett Bracket bust? :)However, this blog isn't intended for stats geeks (though they're more than welcome to read it too). You'll see the occasional graph or chart, but I'll try to steer clear of three-letter acronyms that boil a player's value down to a single number. (There are lots of people who write about those things already, and they do a far better job than I could.) Rather, I want to make sports tech fun and interesting to fans who didn't think sports tech could be fun and interesting.
So, be prepared. There will be short posts and long posts. Some will be about sports you love, and some will be about sports you may not have heard of. Sometimes, I'll leave out STEM entirely. And every so often, I may not write about sports at all.
As I said, caveat lector. "Let the reader beware."
